Trees
with trunks from both natural and Woodland Scenics material
These trunks are
made of the finest parts of roots from a birch.
The roots as they
look when picked.
They are just too "hairy"
After some scissors
trimming, the roots look more like trees with even the fine branches
modelled.
Trunks from
Woodland Scenics Tree kits
These trunks are
made of brown plastic material and comes flat in the bag.
You have to twist the branches in different directions.
The trunks have a good looking structure which isn´t visible when
unpainted.
I have painted the trunks first with a white acrylic primer and then
with a wash of brown artist acrylics that reveals the structure of the
trunk.
At last I have
painted the trunks with a matte varnish to secure the thin wash.
Here is a mixture
of naked Woodland Scenics and root trunks at their place in the scenery.
Some glue was applied here and there on the trunks. And then different
types of foliage was applied
On the plastic
trunks I have used WS Clump foliage - burnt grass. On the root
trees where the fine branches should visible I used WS foliage - light
green.
A light spray of thin PVA glue fixed the hole thing to the tree.
On another tree grove I tried with foliage even on the WS-trees. It
looks much better than the "clump foliage" but the different
tree must be put really tight together to get the branches close enough.
